Xbox One will support original Xbox titles.

Just in case you haven't already heard, Microsoft is going to support original Xbox titles as well as original Xbox Live services as well.  Since I don't really follow e3, I came about a day late to the news.

Not much for me to say here, just looking forward to seeing a few of my favourite titles in HD.  Let's hope they emulate Azurik this time, as well as Gun Valkyrie and a few other underrated titles that get swept under the rug.

BTW, I'm doing okay (for those that ask from time to time).  Just started yet ANOTHER Microsoft position.  It's related to Scorpio, but I can't really say anything more than that due to the strict NDA.  Just hoping to get a perm position eventually, but tech companies seem to favour contracting over full time hires.  Oh well.

Later,

Shogun

  1. Actually Xbox Live services are not being supported again or brought back for original Xbox games. System link will still be supported though across generations. Still this is really great news!

  2. What I don't get is how they managed to do that, when we don't have a nearly comparable PC emulator yet. Hmm.

    1. It'd be a lot easier for Microsoft to build an Xbox emulator since they most likely have all the documentation for the hardware and software, whereas 3rd party emulators like cxbx have to rely on reverse engineering without much knowledge of the documentation. Basically, Microsoft built the original Xbox, it shouldn't be hard for them to build it again, but in software this time.

    2. But in that case, why don't they bring it to Windows 10? I'm sure people would throw money at their screens for that...

    1. We haven't made a release yet, but you can download the latest (work-in-progress/experimental) builds from Appveyor:

      https://ci.appveyor.com/project/SoullessSentinel/cxbx-reloaded/branch/master

Goto Configuration:Release => Artifacts and download a zip from there.

  7. I was wondering if there is a list of common rendering resolutions that Xbox games used internally?

Not all Xbox games look like they were actually being rendered at 480p (even if the video output of the original console is set to that in the display settings). For example, Conker looks absolutely fantastic and sharp as a tack on a Sony PVM 20L5 (multiformat professional CRT monitor capable of displaying 480p content natively without scaling or processing) or even on a 1080p HDTV, while something like Panzer Dragoon Orta or Phantom Dust are considerably blurrier on both displays. Thanks!
