More on Virtua Cop 3

Out of sheer curiosity, I wanted to see if I could at least get into the test menu for Virtua Cop 3.  Did I? Yup, I sure did.

Aside from the fact that it looks rather bad (it's because of a render target issue, causing the primary colour buffer not to be cleared properly AFAIK), it does work and I can change the settings and what not.  How did I do it?  I simply ran the vc3_t.xbe which takes you into the test mode.  That .xbe doesn't do much except pass along some parameters to tell Virtua Cop 3 to start in test mode.  Cxbx saves those parameters to disk as CxbxLaunchData.bin and loads it during the next call to GetLaunchData.  If VC3 doesn't find this data, then it will just try to load normally.  Trying to exit and resume normal loading will cause a crash unfortunately.  A call to RtlEnterCriticalSection that crashes when it calls EmuSwapFS is something I've never figured out how to fix as there are a handful of games that do this.

Still haven't worked out the problem with JVS not being recognized yet.  Just thought I'd share that since the Cxbx news front has been getting silent lately.

Shogun.

  1. I know this isn't exactly related, but since you are working on Chihiro stuff, there might be some overlap.

I'm currently working on hacking/upgrading Outrun 2k6 for the pc. It uses a lot of the files/file formats of the xbox version, and apparently also has much of the graphics (and possibly code) of the Chihiro version of 2SP as well.

Right now I'm having issues/questions with the XPR0 containers and I know you guys probably have those mostly worked out.

Any help sure would be appreciated, just check out the project HERE:

  3. Wow. I was given a link here because I had made a post on reddit saying I didn't think anyone was still working on an XBOX emu.

Glad to see I was wrong, and I wish you the best of luck.

  11. Hi, you have to concentrate into EXCLUSIVES, Virtua Cop 3 is on many other consoles, please do something for Steel Battalion Panzer Dragoon, etc... Other games like this can be played on even on MAME

  13. Shogun I just want to thank you for continuing this endeavor despite the overwhelming amount of work and nonexistent pay associated with it. You take however long you need, the fans will still be here. (Not unlike Prometheus modding tool for Halo 2)

  14. Hope you overcome any road blocks. I wish I knew more about computing so I could help. I've taken an architecture class, know a little x86 assembly, and have programmed extensively in c++. Let me know if I can be any help.

    1. Fuck SEGA, i just send this week to a new store my xbox to be chipped so badly. I'm going to play a lot of this game and Otogi 1 and 2...

SEGA don´t give a dam Shit!
Good Luck Shogun for the emulation...
I still believe this console is not so demanding now, for the new computers... XBOX is only a Pentium III, if you can´t emulated try porting the game.

  20. Good to see someone pushing hard at Xbox emulation. Considering how far PS2 emulation has come with PCSX2, I firmly believe that Xbox emulation is possible, and I for one am grateful that you're pushing along at it.

If you ever get discouraged, remember that people once said that Saturn emulation is impossible, until one Japanese programmer created SSF and blew that idea out of the water. Anything is possible, and I have a firm belief that this bad boy will be right up there with SSF among the celebrated achievements of emulation.

  21. It seems after i mod my xbox, this console sucks big hard.
Drive can´t open, the DVD's difficult can´t read, and etc...
A good solution is running this games on a PC.
    If SEGA give a shit...
Only they announce rumours and releases about Sonic Sequels and Mario, it seems for me SEGA is dead right now.
    RIP SEGA 1986-2013...
